International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) and Novartis Group have entered into an agreement under which ICIG will acquire all of the shares in Sandoz Industrial Products GmbH, a Frankfurt-Höchst based manufacturer of enzyme-based fermentation products and intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry, especially for the use in antibiotics. Closing of the transaction is anticipated to occur on 1 April 2016.
Sandoz’s decision to withdraw from the production of intermediates for 7-ACA antibiotics for external customers in May 2015 initiated a dual track process preparing the site for a sale and securing its customer base while alternatively considering a shutdown of its operation at the Industriepark Höchst.
With this agreement, Sandoz Industrial Products GmbH will maintain its operations associated with the CordenPharma Group, the pharma platform of ICIG. The business will be complementary to both ICIG’s pharma activities as well as to its fine chemicals activities within the WeylChem Group. The site represents an important building block for further expansion into fermentation-based production technology for ICIG.
Upon closing of the acquisition of the Sandoz Höchst site, CordenPharma Group will become one of the major suppliers of 7-ACA to customers worldwide. CordenPharma will also use the material in-house for its own antibiotics value chain at its Latina site in Italy.

International Chemical Investors Group übernimmt Sandoz Standort in Frankfurt-Höchst
Die International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG) und Novartis haben eine Vereinbarung zur Übernahme der Sandoz Industrial Products GmbH in Frankfurt-Höchst getroffen. Sandoz Industrial Products stellt Enzym-basierte Fermentationsprodukte insbesondere für den Einsatz in Antibiotika her. Der Vollzug der Übernahme durch ICIG wird für den 1. April 2016 erwartet.
Als Folge der Entscheidung von Sandoz im Mai 2015, sich aus der Herstellung von Vor- und Zwischenprodukten für Antibiotika der Gruppe 7-ACA für externe Kunden zurückzuziehen, hatte Sandoz die Schließung des Standorts in Höchst angekündigt. Gleichzeitig wurde versucht, durch einen Verkauf die Fortführung des Standorts zu ermöglichen.
Mit der Übernahme durch ICIG wird die Sandoz Industrial Products GmbH Teil der CordenPharma Gruppe, der Pharma-Plattform von ICIG. Der Betrieb ergänzt dabei nicht nur die Pharmaaktivitäten der ICIG, sondern erweitert ebenfalls das Feinchemiegeschäft, das ICIG innerhalb der WeylChem Gruppe betreibt. Der Betrieb in Höchst repräsentiert für beide Geschäftsfelder einen wichtigen Baustein zur Erweiterung ihres Angebots an fermentationsbasierten Produktionsverfahren.
Mit der Übernahme des Sandoz-Betriebs in Höchst wird die CordenPharma Gruppe einer der weltweit führenden Hersteller von 7-ACA. Zudem wird dieses Zwischenprodukt in den eigenen Antibiotika-Anlagen am Standort in Latina, Italien, weiterverarbeitet werden.
